builds the power of immigrant and working-class communities to
achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation,
transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road New
York operates community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson
Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; Brentwood, Long
Island and White Plains, Westchester County. With a membership of
27,000, MRNY tackles the critical issues facing our communities,
including workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights and
civil rights, TGNCIQ justice, public education, health care access,
and immigration reform. (TGNCIQ = transgender, gender
non-conforming, intersex and queer). MRNY is a newly unionized
workplace. MRNY is a multi-service organization. Our member-led
organizing committees which work on the issues named above
implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop
leadership and the capacity for civic participation. We also
provide an array of high-quality bilingual services: We offer
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Spanish-language
literacy, computer literacy, citizenship preparation, and in-school
and after-school youth programs. We have a robust legal program
that offers direct representation across a spectrum of practice
areas, including employment law, immigration law, housing and
benefits, and TGNCIQ civil rights; we also take on impact
litigation as a strategy for achieving broad change. Our health
program offers facilitated enrollment into health insurance
programs and SNAP benefits, a community health worker home visit
program, nutrition education and emergency food pantries, health
care navigation, and more." Our Adult Literacy Department offers
English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes, citizenship
preparation classes, and an intensive Community Health Worker
training program, which prepares immigrant workers for careers in
the health field. The training curriculum integrates core
competencies, health specialties, job readiness and occupational
health & safety through three months of full-time classroom
studies, followed by a two-month internship component. Current
Opening: The CHW Training Facilitator is the lead instructor for
the CHW Training program and CHW refresher course, which includes
teaching, programming and curriculum development and providing
one-on-one coaching (including internship placements and job
placement assistance for the main CHW training). This is a
bargaining unit position and will work 40 hours/week in Brooklyn.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to: Intake and screening:
Assist with outreach efforts for CHW training participants.
Interview prospective CHW students. Support orientation and
registration of class participants. Teaching and curriculum
development: CHW class facilitation, planning and teaching classes.
Develop a comprehensive, organized, replicable curriculum for the
training program. Programming: Schedule external speakers. Arrange
logistics for training day-to-day operation. Perform administrative
tasks for the training program (maintain students’ attendance
records, class materials preparation, creating and feeding Google
Classroom platform, enter placement information into tracking
systems, respond to funder related requests as needed)
Participants’ mentorship: Provide one to one support to class
participants with resume, cover letter, job interviews and career
counseling. Assess students’ skills and readiness for internships.
Collaborate with volunteer tutors on individual trainee support.
Job placement support: Conduct job searches then emailing to CHW
graduates. Follow up with CHW graduates on their job placement
process and provide job readiness coaching. Meetings and Training:
Attend all mandatory staff meetings and other Adult Literacy
department meetings as required. Requirements: Eligible to work in
the U.S Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Strong facilitation skills.
Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching adult learners in the Health
field or related. Strong digital literacy skills with G-Suite,
Microsoft Office, Box, Zoom Experience working in the community
health field (case management, outreach, health navigation, etc.)
Experience providing job readiness support Experience working in a
multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment Interpersonal and
organizational skills of the highest caliber Flexible work
schedule, some evenings or weekends required Occasional travel to
other MRNY offices Possess a commitment to collective action and
community organizing. Job Competencies: Self-starter with strong
organizational skills and strong attention to detail Ability to
work under pressure required. Strong verbal and written
communication skills High level of accountability and initiative;
needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the
organization as a whole Salary and Benefits: MRNY offers an
excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and
generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for
