What You'll Do

As a Cisco AppDynamics Senior Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for

  • Partnering with the account manager to qualify opportunities, articulate Cisco AppDynamics' FSO vision and value proposition to customers
  • Providing technical expertise through value - driven sales presentations and customized , compelling product demonstrations to captivate the audience
  • Qualifying opportunities based on technical fit and customer needs
  • Own the execution of technical evaluations in customer environments ( Proof of Value) .
  • Assist the account managers in closing opportunities by utilizing your creative problem-solving skills and by applying Cisco technology t o create value for customers
  • Understanding customer challenges , the competitive landscape and as appropriate , bring ideas back to the product team to influence the future roadmap
  • Collaborating with the account teams and leveraging your technical know-how in activities such as pipeline generation, creative messaging, etc.
  • T ravel up to 40% primarily to meet customer s, partner s as well as participate in internal meetings and industry events
    We DO NOT make cold calls, although we work in lockstep with account executives to help generate pipeline and help position our solutions with customers . We do not attempt to sell software based on features and functionality alone, we sell utilizing our tried and tested sales process based on solutions to real-world problems and business value creation. We improve ourselves through certifications, training on the competitive landscape, and understanding the market differentiation that makes us the premier full-stack observability choice . There will be opportunities to work booths at premier technology industry events which will help you network and build relationships. The role requires travel to customer meetings, events, etc.

    Who You Are
    • Passionate about understanding customer business challenges and applying technology to solve those problems and demonstrate business value
    • Ability to evaluate customer environments and understand how to apply new technology (observability solution) there
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills to understand and articulate to both technical and business audience
    • Ability to work in a collaborative team setting and leverage extended ecosystem
    • Experience (3 - 5 years) with programming in at least one of the following languages: Java, .NET, PHP, JavaScript, Python
    • Experience with Unix/Linux/Windows shell scripting and OS commands
    • Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS/Azure/GCP)
    • Good understanding of microservices architecture and hands on experience in container-based environments and Kubernetes
    • Experience with web/app servers, popular databases, SQL and networking concepts
    • Ambitious and self-motivated with a high emotional IQ
    • Ability to work on multiple opportunities & POVs (proof of value) concurrently
    • Highly coachable with a strong desire to improve and grow as a professional

      Desired experience & skills
      • Comfortable with speaking at all organizational levels and to stakeholders across boundaries ( internally and externally)
      • Experience with monitoring & application performance management technologies and techniques
      • Certified in one or more cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba, Oracle, etc.)
      • Experience in industry leading packaged software in different verticals like SAP
      • Familiarity with Open Telemetry (OTEL) and trends in the observability landscape
      • High-Level understanding of Application Security
      • Understanding of DevOps (CI/CD practices and tools , deployment methodologies, etc. )
      • Strong technical background and understanding of complex software environments
      • Desire to automate and simplify deployments
      • Resilience to embrace change and move fast
      • 5 + years of experience in one or more o f the following:
        • software s ales engineering / pre-sales solutions architect
        • site reliability engineering (SRE)
        • IT operations / systems administration
        • cloud engineering
        • performance engineering / performance testing
        • microservices and containers
        • devops / appsec engineering
        • software engineering / programming / development
        • database programming / administration

            When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits.             U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO.             Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
