Communications (now part of Cisco) is looking for a Semiconductor
Laser Design Engineer to work on research and development of
semiconductor lasers for optical communications. Experience with
semiconductor laser design, testing, and production is required.
Experience with III-V-Si photonics integration and/or laser
packaging is a plus.
What You'll Do Being a critical member with the laser team at
Cisco, you will work on cutting-edge development and production of
lasers and optical communication modules. Our R&D work is
directly aiming at innovative and challenging products that serve
this industry and market. You will work on III-V lasers, Silicon
Photonics, photonic integration, control algorithms, device and
system testing and characterization.
Who You'll Work WithYou will work very closely with other laser
team members, from idea proposal and demonstration, to
productionizing. You will also work closely with other Cisco teams,
including packaging and mechanical design experts, electronic
designers, software engineers, production engineers, etc.
Who You Are You are an authority in semiconductor lasers. You are a
leader who steers a cross functional team to achieve a common set
of goals. You possess:
- Simulation of semiconductor laser modules, including optical,
electrical, and thermal performance.
- Numerical modeling of III-V quantum well lasers, including
optical gain / loss, electrical carrier considerations, mode
confinement, etc
- Investigating novel laser designs and materials for prototype
development
- Transitioning prototypes into mass production with high yield
and low cost
- Developing laser control algorithms, and characterizing laser
performance
- Deep experience in working with cross-functional teams to
achieve results by identifying and aligning to shared goals,
priorities, and dedications. Able to hold peers, partners, and
yourself accountable
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. or master's degree in optical engineering, physics,
electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience on
semiconductor lasers
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with semiconductor laser
development and production
- Deep understanding of laser physics, solid-state physics,
waveguide design, and opto-electronics
- 3+ years of industry experience with laser simulations,
including optical gain and loss, electrical carriers, mode
confinement, etc
- Familiarity with laser characterization and testingPreferred
Requirements
- Experience with III-V-Si integration
- Experience with DFB lasers and external cavity lasers
