Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey has
opening for a Student Assistant for the Clinical Research and
Occupational Medicine Division within the Environmental and
Occupational Health Sciences Institute, located in Piscataway, NJ.
The Social Worker functions with considerable autonomy in providing
professional social work and case management services to World
Trade Center ( WTC ) first responders and their families related to
their health care and general well-being for a Federally contracted
health program. Under supervision, provides supportive
psychotherapeutic counseling and/or crisis intervention to patients
and families. Duties include: Provides social work & case
management services to WTC Health Program patients and their
families/significant others. Addresses patient’s bio-psychosocial,
social service, and resource needs and links patient and their
families to services, resources and opportunities to maximize
patient functioning and well-being. Assists patients in resolving
social, emotional & environmental problems that interfere with
psychosocial functioning and positive response to medical
treatment. Under supervision, may perform mental health diagnostic
assessments, maintains a caseload of individual therapy clients and
co-lead groups. Develops therapeutic relationships with WTC
patients and assesses needs of patients referred/identified.
Responds with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic factors
impacting patients and their families. Conducts thorough
assessments of patients’ biopsychosocial, social service and
resource needs. Formulates treatment goals and plans for each
patient assigned and works with patient and patient’s family to
monitor progress towards those goals. Overview With its broad and
multidisciplinary faculty expertise, the Environmental and
Occupational Health Sciences Institute ( EOHSI ) is an
international resource that supports basic and clinical research in
environmental health sciences and exposure assessment and fosters
associated programs in environmental health education and public
policy. Established in 1986, EOHSI’s major objectives are to:
Advance understanding of the mechanisms by which environmental and
occupational chemical exposures impact human health. Identify and
measure human environmental and occupational exposures to
chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical
exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of
chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to
environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training
programs for environmental health professionals. The Institute
serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental
problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of
occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk
assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international,
national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

years post masters experience Experience assessing bio psychosocial
needs. Experience working with first responders and medical
knowledge a plus . Knowledge of government assistance programs (
SSI / SSD /Medicare/ Medicaid, etc.), WC, disability, pension
programs, etc. Experience creating surveys with Redcap
