Job Description:
The Senior EHS Specialist applies strong understanding of
EH&S processes, procedures and resources to drive projects and
tasks to completion. Embraces and implements business and process
improvements within EH&S. Works on moderately complex EH&S
problems and considers relative value of several alternative
solutions to potential issues before confirming a final decision as
to the path forward. While having general responsibilities
associated with the EH&S field such as safety, industrial
hygiene, biosafety, radiation, chemical hygiene, emergency
response, ergonomics, training, construction, animal facilities,
etc. A typical day might include: Drives EH&S-based tasks
employing specialized domain knowledge and developed, focused
business expertise Recognizes training opportunities and develops
EH&S training content for online, on the job training and
classroom training sessions. Performs training as necessary
Performs industrial hygiene monitoring of laboratory and support
personnel to interpret data and determine potential exposure to
hazardous chemicals; ensures completeness of data Responsible for
accident rate remediation; completes accident reports, conducts
accident investigations and investigates trends and adjusts
department responses accordingly Develops and leads programs,
initiatives, and activities for the EH&S department with focus
within the research and development and animal research facility
labs and with a focus on such programs but not limited to,
ergonomics, lab design, IACUC support, new target characterization,
Collaborates with and assists in driving communication between key
partners and with other members of the EH&S team May begin to
supervise a team of employees performing EH&S tasks concerning
various health and safety programs. Performs EH&S audits of
labs, lab support areas, animal research facilities, and offices
May assume responsibility for or assist with regulated program
compliance, such as Department of Transportation (DOT), biosafety
program, radiation, chemical safety and inventory, ergonomics,
department metrics, and machine guarding. Provides emergency
response support during medical emergencies, evacuations, hazardous
material spills, etc. and available 24/7. Conducts weekly radiation
surveys in applicable laboratories and maintains surveying
equipment. May have EH&S Business Partner responsibilities for
laboratory groups. Participates in professional development
training and activities. This role might be for you if you have:
Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Proficient in
computer skills, such as microsoft suite. Ability to learn
specialized software applications and specialized safety and
industrial hygiene equipment. Frequently interacts with end users
and various management levels including senior management. Ability
to prepare and conduct presentations of technical EHS information
concerning specific projects. Ability to develop and conduct EHS
training sessions. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. To be qualified
for this role you will need 5 years experience in related field and
industry, and we require a BA/BS degree. A degree in a science
related field is preferred. We are looking for someone who has
experience working in a lab environment. An advanced degree and/or
certifications (Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety
Professional, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous
Materials Manager and/or Medical Emergency Technician) are a plus.
